Great Heater, a little loud, but good for white noise at night. NOT like a personal hair dryer as a reviewer said :)

I live in South Dakota, and for those of you who don't know- it can get VERY COLD here. Right now we're having a little "arctic blast" as the weather service calls it and our high temp today was -1 degrees Farenheit, with wind chills 30-40 below. We have a nice, but older 1960's home with old insulation and windows, plus hardwood floors which makes it harder to keep the rooms warm. This heater is a new model for Delonghi, so there weren't any reviews out there when I bought it so I took a chance on it, and I'm glad I did. It kicks out alot of heat, has a programmable thermostat, and has the option of oscillating which spreads the heat around quite well. As far as the loudness goes, yes it is a bit loud for some people, but certainly not even close to a hair dryer!! . But you do get used to it and its great for white noise if you need that to sleep at night. The only thing I dislike about it is that it beeps every time you change a setting, or move it, which is a little annoying. Overall I like this heater VERY much, it puts out alot more heat than our other Delonghi- the DCH1030 (smaller, non-oscillating, no remote, not programmable)- and even that one is a good heater. We use the DCH4590ER in the evenings after work in the living room while keeping the house thermostat at about 67 degrees. When its time for bed we move it to the bedroom and set the house thermostat set at 62 degrees to save on gas. In the bedroom we set the DCH4590ER's thermostat set at 67, sometimes 66 degrees, and we are very comfortable under our down comforter. We put our Delonghi oil filled heater in the living room at night for the cats. It keeps the chill off the room nicely and keeps the house heat from kicking on as often. The trick to using these heaters is to not expect them to warm up an ice cold room instantly. It won't happen. But if you just want to keep your house thermostat set lower to save on your heat bill, and use these as supplemental heat sources, they are great. I will update this when I get my next months bills and see if these electric heaters saved me any money.
Works Well For Us!

I have an elderly family member with a lower-circulatory problem and limited mobility, so we needed something to heat localized areas of the house to keep her comfortable. This space heater remote controlled, adjustable thermostat filled the requirements perfectly. Unlike other reviewers, I have no problem with the fan noise -- it's a small unit and has to "blow" the air -- not terribly loud, but noticeable, definitely not a deterrent for us. The added safety feature (turns off when tipped over) works and has saved us from a couple of mishaps (inadvertent bumps with the wheelchair). It works well in relatively small spaces, heats in seconds, and has proven to be very reliable so far. I'm considering one for the home office (for use in the cooler mornings/evenings).
Great Heater

Great heater. It met all our requirements (small, low cost, safe, remote, thermostat, tip-over protection). It's great for getting dressed on cold mornings, just turn it on and the area right in front is warm right away. It takes a little more time ~1/2 hr to warm up our whole bedroom, but that seems to be pretty good for such a small heater. It makes a little noise (of course), but nothing we can't sleep through and it actually seems quieter than another similar heater we bought for another room. And the remote is great for turning it on and off without having to get out of the warm bed.
DeLonghi 1500 Watt Ceramic Heater

The DeLonghi portable heater is just right for small rooms, or medium rooms that you do not want to get hot while you are sleeping. The timer and the remote control are handy so that I can turn on the heater before climbing out of bed in the AM. I set the timer so that I do not forget to turn it off, should I fall asleep. I do not experience the loudness that other writers c/o about. I also used the heater to help dry a leak after a rain in the basement. The best feature is the heater will turn off, should someone knock the heater over.
Thank you for a good product-for the price.

Excellent Heater

Warms up a room quickly, and has a very handy thermostat function that works well. It also oscillates to heat more evenly, and has several heating levels. I would highly recommend. The only possible issue is that the fan noise is somewhat loud.
Little Heater

I am going to be warm and toasty this winter at work. Our room at school is always soooo cold. This rotating heater puts out some heat and is small enough to go under my desk, plus it was such a good price that I don't believe I could have found this quality for this price anywhere else.
Small but powerful for my living room

I bought this heater Jan 2009 and I am using it again this winter. I bought this one to place in the living room. I keep it placed in front of the fireplace which is sealed off and no longer in use. I was skeptical that such a small unit could produce such warm heat but it does.

The thermostat for my house is in the living room where the unit is placed. If I run this unit for a few hours my thermostat does not kick on and off which is nice. I know I am using energy elsewhere but being able to have direct heat and constant is a nice feature. I like the fact that you can oscillate the fan on this unit. That comes in handy when I am trying to heat the area of the living room itself. I was a bit fearful of using this heater since I have pets close to the ground but this unit will shut off if you even touch it. I feared them knocking it over. Even if I move it slightly it has the auto shut off. The remote comes in handy too when I am sitting on the sofa and feel too lazy and comfortable. I can just change the temperature settings or turn the unit off with the remote. I really like the fact that it does not take up much room as I do not have a lot of room to spare. I have kept it out year round but only use it in the winter. It is so small that I do not need to store it. Small, but yet very powerful. My only complaint would be the fan can be a bit noisy. I have it placed in the vicinity of the TV so when trying to watch TV I have to turn the volume up (on TV) or the sound is drowned out. I choose to place it in the living room so I guess that is my own doing. Using this for the second winter now I have no complaints. It functions great and I hope to get a few more winters out of it.
Space Heater

I love it. It warms my bathroom perfectly. Not good for larger spaces. Sounds like an exhaust fan, however. That's O.K. since I'm not trying to sleep while using it.
Good heater

I haven't had a chance to really use the heater (will do so this fall), but I've turned it on and it seems to be working great! Heats up quickly, it's pretty quiet and the remote control works well. Great value for the price I paid.
DeLonghi DCH4590ER Heater

Reviewer: Barney Montana,
We have a travel trailer and a pickup camper. This is the 4th heater we have purchased from this company, and they are wonderful. They preform circles above other heaters. This last one is nice because it has the remote control. The temperater control is just a little off, it reads about 5 degrees less than the room accually is, but that is no big problem. I would recommend this product to anyone that needs a little boost in room temerature. We like it so much, we ordered another one to have as a spare. The price was certainly great.
Good Buy!

Reviewer: R. Nair,
Very good heater for small rooms(mines a 4x3 sqmeter). Its rotating function is important since this helps to spread the hot air over a wider area and prevents formation of concentrated stagnant dry air that hurts your nose. It also delays the heater from turning off itself too soon, since the heaters thermostat is also moving with the oscillating heater, sampling air from around it. With the earlier Honeywell surround heater i had, i used to blow a portable fan at it so the heater wont turn off fast and only give me a heating range of a few inches around it. But with this Delonghi oscillating thing, i dont have to use that fan blowing at it. It does it by itself. This heater can also work as a very low speed fan.

You can clean the heater opening its back. The air intake has a filter that can be removed and washed/dusted. Its a good idea to wipe off any dust accumulation at the air intake to get a prolonged use.

I like the Remote control feature a lottt! Now i can adjust the temperature without getting out of my bed.

Cons: I dont like the always on orange display. It shines in my face at night. Maybe they can make it only light up when u press a key. There is another ON red indicator light and thats enough.

The heater is very sensitive to flat surfaces and movements. This wont turn on even if plugged, if the bottom is not entirely 0 degrees flat. Thats a good safety feature but its irritating as well.
love the remote ...

Reviewer: Anonymous,
I bought this because the other two reviews said it was loud, and I wanted it for white noise, along with the heat. I do not think it's too loud, but I like to sleep to noise, so guess it all depends. It is too small for our bedroom to produce a lot of heat, but I use it on the fan setting for the noise effect!
Great little heater

Kept in a fairly large bathroom on the Auto temp setting and does a great job (We like this bathroom warmer than the rest of the house). The remote is especially handy for periodic adjustments. It oscillates too, but I don't use.
Great price and great heat!

I love the remote control feature and that it's also programmable. It puts out lots of heat and is fairly quiet. The versatility of all the settings makes this heater a great value. I would have expected to pay much more.
Excellent product

Small yet powerful, quiet, it oscillates and it's got a remote! Best of all its the safety feature which automatically shuts off the heater if its topples over.
