| Honeywell HZ-617 Low Profile Silent Comfort Heater is one of the best heaters I have ever bought. Heats the room very well and there no noise. A good buy for the prices. I think Honeywell HZ-617 is better than oil filled heaters. |
Small but mighty...

I wouldn't trade this for another heater. It's great. It's compact and quiet. It's safe too. I tried the "tip over" shut off feature and yes it works.
Another reviewer mentioned a smell... when the unit has been off for a while and then turned on their is a minimal odor but it's gone in a minute or two. It smells like the first time you use an iron. No biggie.
I would recommend this, but shop around because I didn't pay this much for mine. |
Warmer than ever

| Honeywell HZ-617 Low Profile Silent Comfort HeaterWe have been seduced by all of the adds in papers, throwaways etc about the "Amish Heater" and others, so made the mistake of buying one of the Amish heaters. In looking to see whether to buy another or the other highly advertise one, I looked at Consumer Reports that had rated them very poorly. Having rated the Honeywell highly and it cost about 1/5th of the others I looked on Amazon and found it. We are very happy with it. My wife who is always cold uses it to allow us to keep our thermostat at a lower level and thereby same money in the long run. It is quiet and puts out a nice stream of heat. |
Good Value

| Great unit i have it in an 18x18 bedroom and i have it set on 70 degrees and it works great. Completely silent and heated the room very quickly. the build in tip safety is a nice addition. I also liked the thermostat so that that its not running all day long. |

| This is the latest generation of these excellent heaters. There is no sound, no smells (just let it gas out in your garage for a day or two, turning it on and off) and it is light enough to move from room to room SINCE THEY HAVE RUN OUT OF THESE, JUST LIKE THEY SOLD OUT OF THE TWO VERSIONS BEFORE IT!! Someone is asleep at the switch re: these great heaters. |
works great

| I use it on a 3 season porch in my house in Northern Michigan. It does the job and gives me use of the room year round. |
By far the best of all

| My boiler broke down in early November just as most of the heating specialist in the area start getting overwhelmed. As an emergency resort I acquired three space heaters and of the three this was the best. Since then we added three other and eliminated the weakest but this is still the best. Unfortunatelly it was taken over by two of my kids for their large bedroom and we have to go to their room if we want to remember how it was before the boiler broke. |

| We have 4 of these heaters and they work great. So quiet you can't even hear them. They put out a lot of heat. |
So far so good

| Nice compact, quiet, and safe heater. Puts out plenty of heat controlled by a thermostat. Auto turn-off if tipped but very stable. Fan can be turned on as well, but doesn't really make much difference, so it can be left off for silent operation. Can't imagine any other heater this size could be a better choice. It's about 3 feet wide, 6 inches thick, and 10 inches high. I haven't gone thru a winter with it yet, but it's obvious the heat it puts out will do the job. |
I Can SMELL The Heat
|
| Review Date: November 9, 2007 |
| Reviewer: J. Giammarco, |
I just purchased this heater and have had it plugged in for about 10 minutes now. The one thing I can tell you for certain is that this heater SMELLS -- and I don't mean that in a good way.
Some heaters smell of electricity when you turn them on and this one is no exception. (I'm actually debating right now whether to go turn it off because I truly can't stand how bad it smells!)
Even if this heater could heat my entire home, I think I would return it. The smell of electricity is very unpleasant -- and probably quite unhealthy too!
EDIT: After several hours of use, the smell stopped. This is a decent little heater -- though I think you could find better. (Check out the Soleus MS-09 -- it's gotten some great reviews so far). If you are content with an average heater, this one might be right for you. It operates silently when the fan isn't on. (As another reviewer mentioned, the "Quick-heat" fan function is basically useless).
Happy shopping! |
Silent for sure

| Its silent alright, you can plug it in and forget its even there. Tried to use in my living room left running overnight and came down stairs to a frigid room, couldn't even tell it was running unless you stand over it and feel a slight warm breeze. Its fine in a 8 x 9 room constantly running with the door shut but not in a room any larger. |
Started out well, but now ineffective

| This heater worked well when it first arrived. It heated my 8 x 15 office quickly. It did have some unpleasant smell at first, as noted by others, but it didn't take long to dissipate. However, it has progressively been much less effective in heating this room. What I really don't like is the way the heat is dispersed. The pics look like half of the front is a grill for the heat to come from. This is not correct. All of the heat comes out of the top, and the top of the BACK! There is no way that this heater can be placed next to a wall, or even under anything. Any object directly behind or above will be subjected to constant, intense heat whenever the heater is turned on. I would definitely not recomment this product to anyone. |
unit got hot, room did not

The body of this unit got too hot to touch but didn't put sufficient warmth into the room. I returned it and took my lump over the return shipping fee. I would not recommend this to anyone with small children or anyone who might want to change its location once it got heated up.
I have another Honeywell space heater that I love but it is not the low profile type like this one. |
An almost useless heater

| I bought the heater to warm up a glass-enclosed porch this winter. At even the highest settings, the heater gives off very little warmth, and then only within a few feet of the appliance. The porch is small, about 12' x 6', so from reading other reviews, I expected the heater to be adequate for the space. It isn't. It is very quiet, but without warmth, that means little. |
BEWARE, Honeywell/Kaz Heater nearly burned down my House!

I purchase 2 units just like this.
The thermostat stopped working on both of them in about the same time period @1 month. They in turn overheated and nearly caused an electrical fire, thank goodness my wife was home to see what was happening.
I called HoneyWell/Kaz (the real company name is KAZ Inc I found out, but they kept the Honeywell name for obvious reasons). They were extremely defensive and told me to send the heaters back for refund and that they would conduct a FULL-Analysis and get back to me. When I called back later they could hardly remember me or the problem and I was shuffled me into Voice-mail, I must have called 7 times. I then called the Fed Trade Commission to issue a consumer warning against this product, they immediately sent someone over to review the damage and file a report.
The FTC called Honeywell/Kaz and demanded the defective heaters be sent to them, but lucky for Kaz (I sarcastically write) they had disposed of them and would not produce any such defective products. The FTC said big companies often try to get the product back so that no formal un-biased review can be performed on the product, I will be happy to provide names of individuals both at Honeywell/Kaz and the FTC, so you may corroberate these claims.
Beware these things are dangerous in my Experience, (2 of them!). |
